Nervous and worried, I was slow at my reading, but I didn’t want to make a mistake–and given that every person they brought in was usually nervous and rightly so, it seemed more important than ever to be certain of their feelings.

(Not that I ever wanted to turn part of the Academy tale into a small depiction of the awfulness of torture or anything. Stupid Greater Meaning.)
