There’s not much I can say here that I haven’t already said for Best Professional Artist. Except that fan artists seem a lot looser, and a more willing to gently (or less gently) prod and make fun of some of the nerdgassinness of the sci-fi genre. (Or should I say SF, to award proper respect?)
At the same time, fan artists also provide the same services that professional artists do: illustrate the strangeness of science fiction and fantasy.
