What’s It All About, Really?

Kindle Kindle Kindle

I love my Kindle very much. You can read even more about our relationship.

Fantasy and Science Fiction

Yes, I love these genres. Or this single genre. Or speculative fiction. Whatever. I like to write about it, although about 75% of the time this veers into Kindle-land, so for instance I concentrate on new releases on the Kindle and Kindle-centric spotlight articles. My reviews tend to be part of the loose Kindle-licious series.

It’s not just about SF/F and the Kindle, however. I cover the Hugo Award Nominees in detail (since 2008), along with mentions for other awards. I’m also a muckracker for interesting and sometimes sordid news.

Warning: because so many SF/F authors love him, and because I certainly have very fond memories of reading his stories in college, I consider P. G. Wodehouse honorary SF/F around here.

The S∂ eBookery

As a hobby, I create free eBooks. I do take requests, sometimes. And sometimes I might pop up out of the blue and politely ask, though these days I expect to be turned down most of the time.

More details about how I work can be found under the S∂ eBookery page.

What It All Used to Be About

For a while, Spontaneous Derivation was a meta-blog (e.g., talked a lot about blogging). I tend to target blogging writers—e.g., someone whose lifeblood is writing, and not so much blogging. Simple, to the point, not full of technical fluff.

I will still talk about blogging from time to time, but I want to focus on SF for a while.

Popular series are Blogging for Writers and HTML for Dummies.

Who I Am

I’m Arachne Jericho. I write stuff sometimes. Here’s more information about me if you want it.

Dude, the Name, the Name, Why Oh Why the NAME?

Spontaneous Derivation

I wanted an oxymoron that had, at the time of its inception, no hits as a combined phrase in Google. Seems to have worked. Many writers find this name amusing; if you’re a writer, you’ll figure it out. I’m not saying.

S∂

For the mathematically minded, ∂ is the partial derivative symbol. It’s neater than d, the normal derivative symbol. And yes, I loved diffeq as a college student.

Arachne Jericho

Sometimes life is cruel and human beings are stupid. I’ve thought about changing the name, but it’s already kind of spreading when someone sensible said I should change it. I should have reacted sooner. Ah well.

I’m aware that all these names are cruel to fingers and misspellings. Sorry about that.

The Ultimate Goal

My hope is that you find S∂ (or Sd, for those of you who don’t like typing ∂, and I don’t blame you at all) unique and enlightening.

Happy browsing.
